John Cleary is the New England Manager for Organic Valley Cooperative. He works with organic dairy farmers to help them improve their farming practices and to keep up with the ever changing landscape of food quality, animal welfare, and environmental regulations. Over the last 18 years John has worked with various organizations on national and state-wide policies to create a more sustainable food system. He was the director of the organic certification program at the Northeast Organic Farming Association of Vermont during the time when the USDA was developing the National Organic Program and participated deeply in that process. He also owns a diversified organic livestock farm in Plainfield, VT. Together with his family, they raise organic beef, pork, eggs, and dairy heifers. He is a strong believer in the power of grass-based farming to both heal the soil and boost the farm economy of New England.
